For Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, world spiritual leader and peace ambassador, meditation is the answer for achieving world peace. At 14th November 2015 he visited the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam, and we got the chance to visit this incredible man. During his lecture he explained that stress is the main cause of anger and anxiety. Stress interferes with a good communication, because you harm yourself and others in your surroundings. Meditation is a tool that can solve and prevent the harm by releasing stress and thus creating inner peace. To have world peace, we need inner peace that makes it possible to change our surroundings in a better place whether in a family, relationships, business or even between nations.
What if all word leaders find inner peace? They wouldn’t have a need any more to argue with other nations. For example; in the Middle East there are many conflicts between Shi’a and Sunni. What if the world leaders in the Middle East find inner peace? They probably have better contacts with other nations and won’t start war anymore about territory and oil. The battle between the Shi’as and Sunni will probably also end and the territory with their resources will be shared. Just like you will share food with your friend, because you like them. If you were angry at your friend, chances are big you would fight about the food. What is the reason of fighting about materialistic resources if they can also be shared? How can fighting lead to world peace if peace can only be found in the heart?
According to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar the solution to all our problems is meditation. By meditation stress will vanish. During the lecture he asked the audience to meditate. And suddenly a group of 250 people were meditating for 26 minutes. You could feel the positive effect immediately. He created instant inner peace within 26 minutes in 250 people. After this meditation we had the opportunity to ask any questions to Ravi Shankar. I remembered three questions that impressed me the most.
‘’Aren’t you tired of visiting all these countries?’’
‘’No, I’m tired of all these terrorists.’’
‘’How can I find true love? I have lots to give and I’m so ready’’
‘’You should know love, truth is always love and love is truth. Why you doubt whether the love is true or aren’t true? When we are centered and calm and experience the serenity within us, we find everything falls in place.’’
‘’Why do we need meditation for peace?’’
‘’There can be not outer peace, if there’s no peace inside. Meditation assures inner peace. When there’s inner peace you can achieve peace outside also. If you are agitated, if you’re are frustrated you can’t create peace outside. You should have peace in order to give peace.’’
How would it be if you would have more inner peace? How would the world be if you had more inner peace? How would the world be if everyone had more inner peace? If I can answer all these questions, I would give just one answer:
There would be love.
We would be one world and one family if we learn just how to smile. Would fanatics still place bumps on society if they know no matter what they do, we will not hate? If there will be no anger, what will move them?
“Violence ends where love begins”
