Last week my friend introduced me to Reiki. He told me that the science of Reiki originated from Japan. Reiki is the science of energy therapy which was developed as a form of alternative medicine in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Although Reiki has been adapted in The West and practiced across varying cultural traditions, it uses an ancient technique commonly called palm healing or hands-on-healing. My friend asked me if I had enough sleep last night after the Reiki Healing. I was astonished! How could he know that I didn’t sleep well? My friend told me that through the use of this technique, Reiki practitioners believe that they are transferring “universal energy” through the palms of the practitioner, which they believe encourages healing. I was feeling less tired and more energized! My tiredness just dissapeared.
Another interesting fact about Reiki are the five Reiki Principles created by Dr Usui while doing healing work with cripples and beggars in the poorer districts of Kyoto. The healings were dramatic, in many cases enabling the receipents to return to a normal working and family life. However, after a period of time he noticed that some of the same people were returning to the streets. They explained that this was because it was an easier life than that involving the pressures and responsibilities of family and working lives. Dr Usui was disappointed but recalled wisdom that Buddhist monks had given him years before. They had explained that healing the Spirit was more important than healing the body. Also, these people had not appreciated gifts that had been given to them without charge. Usui realised that he had ignored the spiritual needs of these people, assuming that their physical needs were paramount. He spent further time in meditation and received the five Reiki Principles which are beautiful mantras we can use for everyday life.
1. Just for today, do not anger
2. Just for today, do not worry
3. Honour your parents, teachers and elders
4. Earn your living honestly
5. Show gratitude to every living thing
The other important note about Reiki is the message of global healing and unconditional love. The purpose of the Global Reiki Healing is to unite people around the world to heal personal and global issues. My friend told me that it does not matter where you are located. If you want to receive global healing and energy light of the Reiki Masters and practitioners. Just close your eyes and try to receive. Open your heart to receive their love and energy. Hence Reiki Masters send us daily universal love through their energy work to heal and reach our hearts worldwide.
